How does the new electronic entry system (EES) at Berlin airport work?
If you arrive on a visa, you scan your own passport at a machine before passport control and give your fingerprints and a photo. The machine is not compulsory, but without it you wait longer at the check.
At Berlin airport, the system is in use for visitors arriving on a visa, such as family coming to visit.
After you leave the plane, there are several machines on the right before the passport control queue. You scan your passport, give your fingerprints and have your photo taken. No officer does this for you; you do it yourself.
Then you join the passport control queue. The police check your passport and stamp it.
You do not have to use the machine. If you cannot, the officer at passport control takes your fingerprints and photo, but it takes longer.
