Is there a limit on carrying cash or gold between Turkey and Germany?
You must declare cash of 10,000 euros or more per person at customs. Gold coins such as çeyrek or tam and gold bars count towards this amount. Jewellery does not count as cash, but you may need to declare it as goods.
The threshold is per person and applies both when you enter and when you leave the EU.
Gold coins (such as çeyrek, yarım or tam, which are at least 90% gold) and gold bars count as cash. So if your cash and this gold together are worth 10,000 euros or more, you must declare them.
Jewellery such as bracelets and necklaces does not count as cash. Depending on its value, though, you may need to declare it at customs as goods.
Checks are rare, but the penalty for not declaring can be heavy. If you are unsure, declare it. Check the current rules on the websites of German customs (Zoll) and Turkish customs.
