I did my Anmeldung but my tax ID (Steuer-ID) hasn't arrived. How can I get it quickly?
You do not have to wait. You can get your Steuer-ID from the Bürgeramt or from the Finanzamt nearest your home. Once it is your turn, it can take just a few minutes.
After the Anmeldung (address registration), the Steuer-ID (tax ID number) normally arrives by post. If it does not, you do not have to wait for it.
You can go to the Finanzamt (tax office) nearest your home, where they may give you the number straight away. It may not matter which Finanzamt you go to.
The Finanzamt may also send you to the Bürgeramt. There, the number has been handed over within 2 minutes after queueing.
If you need the number for a work contract, ask your employer whether you can sign without a Steuer-ID and give them the number later.
