How do I register for the broadcasting fee (Rundfunkbeitrag), and what if I don't know my number?
The Rundfunkbeitrag is paid once per home, not per person. If someone else in your home already pays, you do not, but you need to report it. If you do not know the number, write the payer's name on the form.
After your Anmeldung (address registration) you usually get a Beitragsnummer (contribution number) and a bill automatically.
If your landlord, partner or flatmate lives in the same home and already pays, you do not pay separately. You do need to report this, though.
If you do not know the payer's number, write their name on the form. If the online form will not go on without a number, send your letter by post or email. They will find the number themselves.
If your landlord does not live in the flat, you have to pay. The fee cannot be included in the rent.
