How do I get Kindergeld (child benefit)?
You apply for Kindergeld to the Familienkasse. You need the tax ID of the parent and of the child.
Kindergeld is paid by the Familienkasse, part of the Bundesagentur für Arbeit. You can apply online or with a paper form.
You'll need your own and your child's tax ID (Steuer-ID). Your child's Steuer-ID arrives by post after the birth is registered.
It's paid retroactively for at most 6 months, so don't delay applying. Check the Familienkasse website for the current amount.
