I got a new passport (or my surname changed). How do I transfer my residence permit to the new passport?

You need to have your residence permit transferred to the new passport. If you meet the conditions, any Bürgeramt in Berlin does this by appointment; otherwise the LEA does. You do not have to change your surname when you marry.

In Berlin, any Bürgeramt can do the transfer (Übertrag) by appointment if you meet three conditions. You still have the old passport with the valid permit in it. No more than 6 months passed between the old passport's expiry and the new one's issue date. And you have not spent more than 6 months outside Germany.

If you do not meet the conditions, for example because the old passport is lost, the LEA handles it.

For Turkish citizens the fee is currently 27.60 euros under 24 and 46 euros for 24 and over. To book, search for the service 'Aufenthaltstitel auf einen neuen Pass übertragen' on service.berlin.de.

A residence permit is usually not issued for longer than your passport is valid. If your passport expires soon, your permit may be shorter too.

If you married, you can keep your own surname in Germany; you do not have to change it. If you need a document showing your old surname and the date of marriage, ask for a Formül B (international marriage record extract). You can get it from the civil registry office (nüfus müdürlüğü) in Turkey or from the consulate.
