Is my residence permit issued as a sticker in my passport instead of a card?
Lately, residence permits are usually issued as cards again. If you are offered a sticker in your passport and want a card, say so clearly. The card can take 6-7 weeks.
Because the electronic residence card (eAT) takes time to produce, some caseworkers suggest a sticker in your passport at the appointment. If you insist on the card, it is usually printed and you collect it a few weeks later. Feedback is that the card is easier when travelling.
If you came on a Blue Card visa, you need to apply for the physical residence card before your visa expires. You do this online on the Berlin service portal (service.berlin.de). You upload your documents, and the office gets back to you if anything is missing.
Practice varies with the caseworker and the time of year. Check the LEA website for the current situation.
