Do I need my Turkish profession or degree recognised in Germany?

For regulated professions such as doctor or teacher, recognition is required. In other professions you can work without it, but recognition is an advantage. The official portal anerkennung-in-deutschland.de is also available in Turkish.

Professional recognition (Anerkennung) is an official check of whether the qualification you gained abroad is equivalent to a profession in Germany. At the end you get a written decision.

Regulated professions (reglementierte Berufe): For example doctor, teacher, and many professions in health, safety and social work. Protected titles such as engineer also count. Recognition is required to work in these professions.

Non-regulated professions: For example automotive mechatronics technician or office management. You can work in these without recognition, but it can help with job applications.

To apply, you need to want to work in Germany and have an official professional qualification. You can apply even without your diploma; you can show your skills, for example, through a work trial.

The cost varies a lot by profession and can often be a few hundred euros. Translation and certification costs may be added. Financial support may be available.

On the official portal anerkennung-in-deutschland.de, the Recognition Finder (Anerkennungs-Finder) shows which authority is responsible. The portal is in 11 languages, including Turkish. It recommends visiting a counselling centre before applying. "Working and Living in Germany" hotline: +49 30 1815-1111 (German and English).
