What happens if I get pregnant during my Ausbildung? Can I pause it?
Pregnancy does not cost you your Ausbildung place or your rights at school and at work. Check the details of paid leave and pausing with your school and your workplace.
During an Ausbildung (vocational training) you are also entitled to maternity protection (Mutterschutz) and afterwards parental leave (Elternzeit). Your Ausbildung can be extended to make up for it.
The details of paid leave, and how you can pause the Ausbildung, can vary. Ask your school, your workplace or the chamber, such as the IHK or HWK.
If you are at university, pausing may be possible too. A private university has let a student pause her studies free of charge because of pregnancy.
