I've lost my job. When should I contact the Arbeitsagentur?
As soon as you know your job is ending, register as a jobseeker within 3 days at the latest.
If your employment contract is ending, you must register as a jobseeker (arbeitsuchend) with the Agentur für Arbeit within 3 days of finding out. If the end is more than 3 months away, registering at least 3 months before the end is enough.
If you're late, your unemployment benefit (Arbeitslosengeld) may be cut.
You can register online (arbeitsagentur.de) or by phone. On the day your job ends, you also need to register as unemployed (arbeitslos).
