I want supplementary dental insurance (Zahnzusatzversicherung). What should I look out for?

First work out what you need, then compare plans. Comparison sites or an independent adviser can help. Always check the waiting periods and the annual payout limits.

Supplementary dental insurance pays part or all of the costs that statutory insurance does not cover, such as fillings, professional cleaning and implants. There are many kinds, so choose a plan that fits what you need.

Allianz (for example its 75 and 100 plans) and Barmenia get positive feedback. Refunds have reached about 700 euros in a single year.

There are plans costing around 30 euros a month that pay back about 90 percent for treatments such as fillings. If you are insured with TK, also look at the supplementary insurers TK works with.

You can compare plans and sign up through comparison sites such as Check24. You can also get information by phone first.

Before you sign, check in the contract whether implants are covered.
