As a Werkstudent or employee, is AT/11 or private health insurance enough?
With a Minijob, AT/11 is usually enough. If you earn more than 603 euros a month, you usually need statutory health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung). Your employer may not accept AT/11 or private insurance.
If you only have a Minijob (a small job earning up to 603 euros a month), your AT/11 cover can continue.
If you earn more than 603 euros, you need statutory health insurance in Germany. Even a Werkstudent salary just a few cents over the limit has meant registering with TK. In a full-time job your employer has to arrange insurance anyway.
Some employers do not accept AT/11 or private insurers such as Care Concept. It depends on the employer, so talk to yours first.
Statutory insurers can differ in price and service. There is one positive review of Barmer, so you can talk to them. For periods without work after your studies, a cheaper private insurer such as Mawista can be an option.
