A doctor's website says 'private patients only'. Can I go as a new patient with statutory insurance?

Usually not. The warning usually means the practice is not taking new patients with statutory insurance.

The booking system usually shows 'private patients only' at practices that do not accept new patients with statutory (gesetzlich) insurance. If you are not sure, email or phone the practice and ask.

In fields like dermatology especially, many doctors are not taking new patients. Large health centres called MVZ may give appointments a few months out, so book early.
