Do I have to pay for an ultrasound at the gynaecologist?
Often, yes. Statutory insurance usually pays for an ultrasound only if the doctor sees a medical need. Otherwise you pay for it yourself.
In Berlin, many gynaecologists only do a manual examination at a routine check-up. An ultrasound is not part of every visit.
Statutory health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung) usually pays for an ultrasound only if the doctor sees a risk. An ultrasound you ask for yourself can cost about 40 euros.
If you want an ultrasound, say so clearly at the appointment and ask about the price first. It varies from practice to practice.
