Where can I get glasses in Berlin, and does insurance pay for lenses and frames?

Optician chains such as Fielmann and Apollo test your eyes and sell glasses. For children, statutory insurance pays for the lenses and you pay for the frame. For adults it covers part of the lenses only with a strong prescription.

Large optician chains such as Fielmann and Apollo both test your eyes and sell glasses. You can book an appointment online.

If you bring your old glasses, they can measure the lenses and make new glasses with the same prescription.

For children, statutory insurance usually covers the lenses and you pay for the frame.

For adults, insurance covers only part of the lenses, in cases such as a strong prescription or strong astigmatism. For lenses costing about 300 euros, for example, its share can be 94 euros.

Some opticians have offers where you pay only for the lenses and the frame is included. Ask the optician to check with your insurance card what applies to you.
