To start Kita in Berlin, first get a Kita-Gutschein from the Jugendamt of your district. It's recommended to apply a few months before your child starts.
With the Gutschein you can apply to any Kita you like. You can search for free places on Berlin's Kita-Navigator website. Because finding a place can take time, it's common to apply to many Kitas at once.
There are no Kita fees in Berlin; families usually only pay a small meal contribution.
