Can I be insured in Turkey and Germany at the same time?
If you live in Germany, health insurance here is compulsory. Whether you can keep your SGK cover in Turkey at the same time is unclear, and experiences contradict each other.
SGK contributions and private insurance in Turkey can sometimes simply carry on. But SGK has also said, when asked, that you cannot continue in Turkey while you are insured abroad.
Some people say there can be a penalty if it is discovered.
The answer depends on your situation. Ask SGK and your insurer in Germany which cover counts for you and whether you can stay insured in Turkey.
