How do I get an adult ADHD diagnosis in Berlin?

The process is hard and often paid privately: first psychotherapy, then a test, and a psychiatrist or neurologist for medication. The Charité usually opens a patient list once a year.

It usually goes like this: first 4 to 6 sessions with a psychotherapist, then a test. Finally you see a psychiatrist or neurologist who can prescribe medication. You do not need a psychiatrist for the diagnosis, but for medication you need a psychiatrist or neurologist. They may not be taking new patients.

Very few doctors do the diagnosis on statutory insurance, so you often pay for the sessions yourself (privat). Some people say your insurer can cover part of the private costs if you can show you found no doctor who works with insurance. For this, note whom you contacted and who did not give you an appointment. You can also ask 116117 for help finding an appointment.

The Charité usually opens a patient list for diagnosis once a year, but not every year. Check its website from time to time.

If you were diagnosed in Turkey, bring all your documents. A psychiatrist has confirmed such a diagnosis and continued the medication. Some doctors suggest behavioural therapy before medication.
