When we finish a book we love, we always want to tell someone about it. That’s exactly what this club is for. Each month we read the same book, and on the last Sunday of the month we meet to talk about what we’ve read. We’re not here to come up with brilliant interpretations. We want to talk about how the book made us feel and what it made us think about. A sentence one of us underlined will show someone else something she never noticed. One topic will lead to another, one book to another book, maybe even a film. We’ll choose the next books together, a few months in advance.
Our first book is The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. The novel is made up of letters a woman writes over the years: to her friends, her family and even people she has never met. As the letters go on, we come closer to her life, her hurts and the questions she asks herself. Themes like relationships with our children, growing old alone and coming to terms with the past stay with you long after you’ve finished the book. And thanks to the letter format, it reads effortlessly. If you have trouble finding the book, let us know and we’ll find a way together.
