Where can I find an emergency vet in Berlin at night or at the weekend?

The Berlin Chamber of Veterinarians publishes an up-to-date list of practices and clinics on emergency duty. Always call before you go. Fees are higher out of hours.

Emergency list: The Berlin Chamber of Veterinarians (Tierärztekammer Berlin) publishes an up-to-date list of practices and clinics open at night, at weekends and on public holidays. If your own vet is closed, their answering machine often gives emergency details too.

Call first: Always call before setting off. Describe your pet's condition and ask whether they're taking patients right now. The number of small-animal clinics open 24 hours in Germany has fallen sharply in recent years, so waits can be long.

Home visits: If you can't transport your pet, there are private emergency vet services in Berlin that come to your home. These cost more.

Cost: Out of hours, vets charge at least 2 and at most 4 times the fee scale rate, plus a €50 (net) emergency fee. Even a simple emergency visit can cost a few hundred euros. Bring your card.

Be prepared: Save the numbers of the nearest clinics in your phone before an emergency happens. Take your pet's EU pet passport and any medication it takes. If you suspect poisoning, bring the packaging of what it ate.
